UNIQUE LA: The biggest independent fashion and design show in the US

UNIQUE LA, the biggest independent design show across the nation, is gearing up for another season with more than 325 exhibiting designers and artists that offer a chance to discover new talents and support the local economy. Since December 2008, thousands of attendees have turned out each year to this shopping extravaganza to meet the designers, shop direct and hunt down incredible deals.

Held Dec. 3 and 4, this year’s event will feature clothing for men, women and children; art and posters; bath and beauty; gourmet edibles; home décor; jewelry and accessories; toys; pet items; and stationery.

All products sold are made in the United States. Designer Sonja Rasula invented the show to allow the general public to easily access locally made design and art.

“I want to bring modern Made-in-America design to the masses. My goals are to help designers and small businesses grow and become sustainable, to support the local economy, and to teach shoppers the value of conscious consumerism,” Rasula said in a statement.

Visitors can enjoy music played by DJs, free drinks, a variety of workshops and free craft projects, plus two café areas to grab snacks.

UNIQUE LA gives back each year by donating 10 percent of ticket sales to nonprofits such as Heal the Bay, Architecture for Humanity, 826LA and Create Now.

Previous year’s events have generated about $1.3 million in sales.

Unique LA is held on Dec. 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The California Market Center (110 East Ninth Street, LA, CA 90079). Admittance is $10 (online or day of), and kids 12 and under are free. For moren information, visit stateofunique.com.
