Beloved actress and fashion icon Elizabeth Taylor was renowned for many attributes, among them her incredible jewelry collection. Soon these gorgeous pieces will be available for public consumption. Starting in September, Christie’s auction house will host a three-month tour of public exhibitions featuring select pieces from Taylor’s extensive c ollection of jewels, art, fashion and memorabilia.

On a whirlwind tour, the collection will visit cities including Moscow, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva, Paris and Hong Kong. The event will conclude in New York with a special museum-like exposition Dec. 3-12 and an auction at Christie’s Dec. 13-16. Up to several thousand visitors are expected every day at the Rockefeller Center gallery, attracted by the sales and showcases and the chance to honor a legend.

“The global tour and exhibition of Taylor’s collection at Christie’s will be a window into the world of a true icon, a rare woman who was at once an international film and fashion star, loving mother, successful businesswoman and generous humanitarian,” Marc Porter, chairman and president of Christie’s Americas, said in a statement. “This collection of her many cherished possessions will bring us closer to the essence of Elizabeth Taylor’s unique spirit, and promises to inspire admiration, delight, and at times, sheer wonder, in all who come to see it.”

Taylor, who passed away in March from congestive heart failure, was a noted philanthropist. Carrying on her humanitarian tradition, Christie's is directing a portion of proceeds from the event to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which supports AIDS service organizations around the globe.

The auction is anticipated to be one of the most noteworthy jewelry affairs in auction history. Christie’s will release additional details early fall.
