Happy World Ocean’s Day!

LUX Nation, today is a day to honor our oceans!  To respect and celebrate the gifts provided by the ocean:  the seafood, marine life, transportation it offers and aquatic pets. Not to mention the beautiful sunsets and numerous recreation activities we enjoy in and out of the water. 

This day was ‘unofficially’ declared in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit and wasn’t until just this year that it became officially recognized as ‘World Ocean’s Day’ by the United Nations!

About 71% of our planet consists of ocean surface and the health of our oceans is a true correlation of the health of our planet.  ‘The world’s ocean generates most of the oxygen we breathe, helps regulate our climate and offers a pharmacopoeia of potential medicines.’  So whether you live along the coast or not, today is the day to celebrate your connection to the ocean!! 

Some ways to celebrate:  Purchase ‘Shark Trust Wines’ to help finance shark preservation, host a beach day, or make a donation to one of the non-profits that help keep our oceans and beaches clean!  To learn more about what you can do to help visit The Ocean Project website.
