Kohl’s department store is making a unique statement in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To spread awareness and raise funds, Kohl’s has contracted with 17 artists to produce six-foot-tall sculptures of the cancer’s awareness ribbon that will communicate each sculptor’s personal experience with the disease. Titled “Every Ribbon Tells a Story,” the project will offer the one-of-a-kind sculptures in an online auction to benefit the Southeast Wisconsin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Bidding is available through Oct. 4.

“Kohl’s is proud to support the fight against breast cancer, and we’re excited to help raise awareness for the cause with these inspirational art pieces. Ribbons are synonymous with the cause and each beautiful ribbon sculpture provides a unique perspective on the personal stories of how breast cancer has affected many of us, our mothers, our sisters and our friends,” said Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a statement. “We believe the visual stories depicted by each artist will share hope, courage and inspiration. We encourage supporters to bid on these sculptures to honor a loved one, a coworker or a friend and to display them at a local hospital, school or workplace as a symbol of support for the cause.”

In a display of hope and support for the people whose lives have been touched by the disease, the 17 sculptures will be available for viewing at Kohl’s stores in the Greater Milwaukee area. Kohl’s will further celebrate the awareness month by sponsoring the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Milwaukee and encouraging store associates to be part of a “Pink Out,” in which employees sport pink clothing. Last year, the department store contributed $7 million over three years to the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the American Cancer Society’s Midwest Division to be directed toward breast cancer research, and education and patient-assistance programs. Kohl’s is also supporting the cause through Kohl’s Cares® exclusive merchandise, available in Kohl’s Wisconsin stores and online, with 100 percent of profits benefitting the struggle to end breast cancer.
