London’s Fashion Fringe Prize Awarded to Jena Theo Designs
Created to acknowledge up and coming talent, London’s Fashion Fringe Prize was awarded to the designers of Jena Theo, Jenny Holmes, 29, and Dimitris Theocharidis, 31.
Holmes said: “I am feeling stunned and elated and privileged as all of the designers on this year’s platform so deserved to win. Having the support of everybody at Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden means we can make our dreams happen.”
The Fashion Fringe Prize included a cash price of £100,000 to help finance their next collection, as well as a time slot at the London Fashion Week in February and September of 2010. Not to mention, an exhibition space at Rendez-Vous Paris in October.
This collection was quite versatile in design; each of the 12-pieces could be worn in a variety of manners. Though overall, the Jena Theo line exuded Grecian-style draping mixed with a more contemporary feel. Even more interesting was that they incorporated unconventional fabrics, such as cashmere jersey and crepe silk. The use of eccentric fabrics caused these pieces to stand out on both design and ready-wear appeal.
The four finalists selected for this award were narrowed down in May. The winner was announced on September 22 at the Flower Cellars Covent Garden, as part of London Fashion Week.
