Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia kicks off on April 30

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is kicking off its Spring Summer 2012/13 season in Sydney on April 30 and will run until May 4. The fashion event will celebrate some of Australia’s most renowned labels including Akira, Dion Lee, Ellery, Zimmermann, Kirrily Johnston, Ksubi, Camilla and Bec & Bridge. Alongside the more popular designers, there will also be the special Mercedes-Benz Presents show, as well as events spotlighting solo debuts, swimwear, emerging talent, menswear and Hong Kong designers.

“The excitement is building in anticipation of what will hit the runways this season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia and Romance was Born is a fitting kick-off to the 2012 season. This schedule truly showcases the creativity and innovation of our talented Australian and visiting international designers from across Asia and North America,” says Jarrad Clark, Global Production Director, IMG Fashion.

Making a solo debut this season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia are Bless’ed are the Meek, Roopa Pemmaraju, An Ode to No One, Watson X Watson, Flowers for a Vagabond, Toi et Moi Sydney, Dylan Cooper, By Johnny, Aje and nANA jUDY. And while Jenny Kee and Oroton are Australian icons and household names, they will be presenting for the first time this season.

Joining the Australian circuit and fresh from New York Fashion Week, reality star Whitney Port will be presenting her collections Whitney Eve and WE by Whitney Eve for the first time in Australia. The TV personality will be in attendance to introduce her eclectic and feminine contemporary collection in an installation format within the new venue space, The Box.

Globally known for swimwear, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will highlight swim and resort collections from designers We are Handsome, Suboo, Lisa Maree and Kooey Australia.

Playing a significant part in the 2012 shows, menswear will feature an extensive lineup in the dedicated Men’s Group show that will include FROM BRITTEN P/L, INJURY, MilsMANIFESTO, ZSADAR, Nathan Paul Swimwear, KALB and ETIW. Collections by Christopher Esber, Song for the Mute and Ksubi will also incorporate menswear.

Each year, a special curated blend of emerging talent showcases their collections at MBFWA. This year, because of the abundance of new talent, there will be not one but two New Generation Shows. An exciting lineup including Collecting Pretty Boys, Elliatt, KAHLO, Kristi Rose, Tovah, ASH TO GOLD, LittleGracie, LUELA, Susan Rep, AANCHAL CHANDA, Uscari and LF MARKEY will be on display.

Emerging Hong Kong designers seeking to launch international careers will take center stage at Style Hong Kong with the support of the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council. The presentation will boast new and exciting collections from DoDo Leung, Hei Lau, Chairlie Ho and Harrison Wong.

As an anticipated addition to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, the Mercedes-Benz Presents show will recognize designers that demonstrate dedication to the use of quality materials, unique style and innovative design. The Mercedes-Benz Presents runway designer will work with the company to create a one-of-a-kind experience that ties fashion and automotive design together.
