NYFW Fall 2013: Rebecca Minkoff, DVF & Zac Posen

After kicking off its first round of runway shows on Feb. 7, Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week is in full swing and offering the best ready-to-wear looks for Fall 2013 to fashionistas everywhere! Since its doors opened, audiences have previewed what’s in store for the upcoming season filled with vibrant tones, rich fabrics and detailed garments. Here’s a recap of Rebecca Minkoff’s modern play on separates, Diane von Furstenberg’s vibrant prints and colors, and Zac Posen’s ladylike collection of rich fabrics.

Diane von Furstenberg took a nod to her iconic ‘70s designs when she created her Fall 2013 line. As her collection paraded down the runway, it was obvious that each look mixed a fauna-and-flora feel with a touch of glam rock. The designer opened the show with leopard prints, caramel tones and black and white spotted numbers, and continued with magenta dresses, pops of blue and finally, burgundy looks. While black, white and brown leopard prints were prominent on the runway, more subdued looks of luxury and rock-n-roll also claimed their spot during the show. Some looks that popped were silver and gold metallic jeans, fur-trimmed coats, black and white printed suits and von Furstenberg’s famous brown suede wrap dress making a comeback.

Zac Posen’s ready-to-wear collection was a vision of what formal autumn looks should be. Each look was fit for nobility with structured suit separates, coats outfitted in fur detailing, flowing knee-length dresses and regal floor-length gowns flaunting skintight and mermaid silhouettes. Bursting with rich colors, luxurious fabrics and intricate detailing, a good portion of the collection was loaded with stretch velvet, satin, soutache embroidery, peplum and origami draping and folding. Posen remained within the realm of basic Fall colors like rust, coffee brown, grey, burgundy, black and navy with subtle pops of citrine, sage green and lilac.

Rebecca Minkoff
offered a well-rounded ready-to-wear collection incorporating menswear-inspired looks, oversized coats, graphic prints and casual party dresses. The runway collection fueled a boyish feel with the menswear collared shirts, quilted biker jackets, chunky oversized coats and low-hung slacks. Her looks continued with silky plaid, distressed dark denim, fun novelty tees and a final round of modern cocktail dresses with billowing sleeves and neon shades. Altogether, Minkoff’s Fall collection left audiences wanting more of her sexy tomboy line.
