Pre-Fall 2012: T by Alexander Wang

T by Alexander Wang may be Alexander Wang’s line of affordable basics, but it’s not exactly your mother’s basics. Instead, it’s a collection of basics reinvented with Wang’s modern twists and expertise on fits. Every season he manages to create simple yet perfectly versatile pieces that you never realized you needed. For Pre-Fall 2012, the collection was centered on white, blue, red and black, which trickled down from the big sister line of Alexander Wang.

Buttoned up and just about as proper as Wang’s downtown aesthetics gets, the looks were a focused compilation of slip dresses with high necklines, lightweight turtlenecks, slim-fitting trousers, shirtdresses and, of course, his best-selling sheer button-up blouse refreshed with oversize patch pockets. Oxblood red leather and denim jackets were added for easy wearability.

Wang may have presented the 30 odd looks in a monochrome manner, which is right on trend. But the various pieces could also be effortlessly mixed and matched with one another to create an endless number of ensembles, especially the low-key miniskirts and Bermuda shorts. Any fashionista could easily live off this one collection, which is the true beauty of T by Alexander Wang.

Able to go from day to night in a single breath, Wang’s jersey dresses don’t miss a beat. Thankfully, the perfect-for-any-occasion dress is offered in Wang’s lower line, and Pre-Fall features several versions, including a long-sleeved, crisp navy number and a simple silhouette with mesh insets at the hips.

With T by Alexander Wang, the designer has crafted the perfect extension to his main collection. On point and possibly never out of style, this line is a great investment to add to any wardrobe – or simply if you’re craving a little Wang.
