Radar: London’s Alternative Fashion Week

New York, Milan, and Paris are the cities that pop into mind when one speaks of Fashion Week. However, London’s hip underground culture likes to spend their spring months by reflecting on the future of fashion. Alternative Fashion Week gives up and coming artists a chance to put their avant-garde vision to the stage and get some serious press, even if they aren’t parked on High Street just yet.

Many of the designers are excited to get involved in the event, because it allows faces that are virtually unknown, a chance in the spotlight. A big trend that was seen at the show was the use of structure and metallics, giving a futuristic Ziggy Stardust feel to the English event.

At no charge to designers, Alternative Arts funds the event in collaboration with sponsors such as Yelp, Hammerson and Spitalfields Estate. With over 70 designers, from Sweden to Serbia, the week was a rare glimpse into international newcomers.

Although, LadyLux wasn’t there for the 5 day fashion extravaganza. Check out this great video by the Guardian UK for a sneak peek into a day at the British bash.
