Resort 2013: Versace

There was a whole lot of attitude for Versace this Resort 2013 season, but when is there not with this iconic designer? Donatella Versace traded in last Fall’s gothic glam of leather, crucifixes and chain mail for a little punk glam, complete with the models’ textured boycut hair and heavily lined eyes. While a handful of leather ensembles remained in the collection, it was a much lighter and more playful experience. The collection harnessed energy from a striking pink and a sweet yellow that has been recurring in various shades since her Spring 2012 Couture collection, as well as electrifying prints with hints of stripes comprised of the brand’s logo.

Donatella’s Resort meant sultry minidresses, relaxed suits and miniskirt and jacket combinations. It was flirty but in a fierce way. Minidresses were sleeveless in pink, yellow or black with thick graphic black stitching that ran down the darts and created an outline effect as it trimmed the edges. Leather mini A-line skirts combined with cropped jackets and sleeveless tank tops, while blazers with buttoned sleeves coupled with sporty trousers that just grazed the ankle to create a cool appeal. Monochrome styling was key here with many looks head-to-toe in the different colors that segmented the collection.

Some tonal effects worked their way onto the printed looks and left a major impact. Donatella’s colorful graffiti-like pattern paired a waistcoat with trousers as well as a miniskirt and blazer, while the Versace logo striped motif saw a button-down dress with cutout shoulders cinched at the waist and a necktie blouse with pants.

Donatella maintained the theme with booties and pumps in coordinating colors and patterns. Resort footwear was modern with pointed toe ankle booties, open toe lace-up booties and pointed toe pumps, all with a clean stiletto heel and sleek platform.

Versace’s Resort 2013 had just the right balance of vibrancy and fiery to knock anyone out of their winter blues.
