You may not be spearheading an African safari excursion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress the part. Thanks to Michael Kors’ Spring 2012 collection, safari-inspired wardrobes are on-trend this season and, with the right mix, rather chic. The concept blends neutral shades of khaki, olive and brown with exotic textures and earthy prints. Through Kors’ lens, strict utilitarian outerwear and footwear combine with loose, soft silhouettes, creating a dramatic presentation worthy of a journey to Africa. To take the runway to your spring wardrobe, infuse key pieces of prints or colors and add simple embellishments in wood or snakeskin!

Create a foundation for your safari look with khaki pants from Rag & Bone or Bermuda shorts from Vince. Either staple piece can easily be styled with a white tank, a red braided leather belt from Maison Scotch and Theodora and Callum’s diamond scarf. Complete the look with snakeskin wedges from BCBG Maxazria.

To take the printed route, go with Young Fabulous & Broke’s tropical stripe swing top and pair with khakis or subtle snake print olive skinny jeans from Citizens of Humanity. Step into Jean-Michel Cazabat’s cork wedge pumps for extra height and layer on 10 Crosby Derek Lam’s hooded parka to round out the ensemble.

If going on expeditions in a dress is your thing, work T by Alexander Wang’s olive satin tank dress with Rebecca Minkoff’s ruggedly chic lace-up cutout booties to toughen up the look. Accessorize with Elie Tahari’s snake-embossed crossbody bag and Michael Kors’ exotic cuff. Don’t forget the Ray-Ban aviators to shield your eyes from the desert sun!

Raquel Allegra’s tie-dye caftan is just the dress for an inspired look. The maxi style is already unique with its organic print but add on a dark wood and bead necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane to embody nature in an edgy manner. Stick with simple footwear like Rachel Zoe’s Gladys flat sandals.
