Spring 2013 runway trends: bright pink

First there was blood orange and now bright pink joins the color trends for Spring 2013. From New York to London to Milan Fashion Week, designers are definitely in agreement on vivid colors for the new season – and the brighter the better. Pink appeared in various options with shades ranging from azalea to glaring highlighter tones to rich saturated hues. Pops and trims, dresses and matching suit ensembles exploded onto the runway thanks to the take-notice color. Daring as bright pink feels, it offered a flattering complement to tan legs and easily matches with citrus or jeweled palettes for a novel take.

The word on Gucci’s runway was “bright.” In a play of colors, the Spring collection stepped out in coordinates shining in yellow, green, blue and of course, pink. The sixties and early-seventies silhouettes displayed the color from head to toe – a complete yet appropriate departure from the dark, nocturnal collection from Fall 2012.

Jenni Kayne took a different approach than Gucci with color for the new season. The New York designer exhibited an overall rustic palette but livened things up with a small contrasting burst of highlighter fuchsia. An exuberant trifecta that included a shift dress, short-sleeved maxi number and stylish pantsuit offered an intermission between loosely surf-inspired styles.

London designer Osman went bold by injecting moments of black throughout the glowing collection of saturated pinks, blues and yellow. The show opened with a shorts-set in the key color and continued the motif into collarless coats, sheath dresses, cropped skinnies, peplums and origami-style tops. In this runway rendition, the vivid shade was often paired with the aforementioned colors.
