It’s been slightly over a year since Bande des Quatres’ launched, but Wahed has come a long way since she used to watch her mother hand-make jewelry as a child. Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Wahed learned at a young age the importance of business from her father, an investment banker, and art from her mother, a renowned Canadian jeweler. The application, launched by WWP supporter Raytheon for Military Appreciation Month, aims to create awareness for the work that has been done for the injured military service members and their families.

“The number one reason we’re doing this is awareness — it has the potential to influence anyone who uses Twitter,” said Joe Washam, a former Army sergeant wounded in Baghdad from a building explosion, as reported by Mashable.com. “All of your followers will see what you tweet, and hopefully they click on your links.”

Hashtags4Heros runs in Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox. Mobile apps are also offered for iOs, Android and Blackberry browsers. For users that would like to participate but don’t want tweets to autofill for the entire month, Hashtags4Heros’s website offers direct tweeting with automatic messages in the unused characters.

Raytheon had hoped for the campaign would hit 30,000 donated characters before Memorial Day, but just one week after the launch, more than 125,000 characters have been filled with Hashtags4Heros messages. The campaign now aims to donate 300,000 characters by May 31.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, the Museum’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit took place on May 7 with red carpet arrivals streaming live for the first time in history.  The event’s honorary chair was Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO and the co-chairs were designer Miuccia Prada, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour and actress Carey Mulligan.  This fundraising event is the Costume Institute’s main source of funding for exhibitions, acquisitions and capital improvements.

Screenwriter, director and producer Baz Luhrmann collaborated with Koda and Bolton as creative consultant producing a series of filmed elements for the exhibition.  The film’s production designer is Catherine Martin and all mannequin head treatments and masks are designed by Guido Palau.

The original SoHo store unveiled its new look last week which now boasts a 30-foot Beauty Studio ready to conduct express services of customized makeup applications, a private Personal Beauty Advisor room, a separate fragrance room that allows clients to explore scents in an immersive environment and an art installation by Eric Daigh comprised of pushpins.

In June, the Union Square store will be next up for the remodel, followed by Columbus Circle and Times Square locations by the end of the year. Along with the stores, Sephora uniforms will be updated by New York designer Prabal Gurung.

“We have 16 stores in Manhattan, and 15 of them are not yet state of the art,” said David Suliteanu, president and chief executive officer of Sephora Americas, adding that the Meatpacking District store, opened in September 2011, was the exception. “We’ve learned a lot from the Meatpacking store that you will see in upcoming stores. “We intentionally would mismatch the outfits and began styling ourselves at a very young age,” Brie shared about their childhood.

Their first unofficial lesson in fashion came from their grandmother and her closets full of magnificent pieces from every era. She exposed them to iconic styles from each decade, engaging the girls on the history of fashion. Brie and Jenny would play with the different styles in their grandmother’s closet, taking them apart to create new and modern looks. The hobby ultimately developed into their passion for apparel, and the goal to study fashion design and create their own clothing line.

Brie and Jenny studied design at Syracuse University in New York as well as a study abroad program at the London College of Fashion.

“We weren’t determined to go to school together initially, but we both knew we wanted to study fashion design. When it came down to choosing schools, we knew that, realistically, we wouldn’t last long without each other! We left Los Angeles to study fashion design in New York,” Jenny said.

In Italy, Milan, Rome and Florence will be hosting events, while Germany will celebrate in Berlin and Düsseldorf and Russia will entertain in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Brazil, Mexico and Greece will also be hosting Fashion’s Night Out in several cities. The United States will be holding the event on September 6 alongside New York Fashion Week Spring 2013.

“We are delighted to be supporting the fashion and retail sectors again while highlighting the important role fashion plays in the economy of a country,” said Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, as reported by WWD.com. “Last year, numbers of visitors were exceptional, in particular on Bond Street where visitor numbers were up by 92 percent on 2010. Street closures and live performances helped boost attendance and create the mood of a stylish street party.”

“The web is fantastic but, with the magazine, you can keep it and hold it and reference it,” said design editor Wendy Goodman, as reported by WWD.com. “You can take this with you.”

The debut magazine will feature three different covers displaying overturned paint cans in blue, red or yellow.

“This magazine is a hybrid of aspirational design and practical information,” added Goodman. “So the paint is beautiful and luscious looking but it’s also down to earth.”

The 220-page magazine will boast the usual New York apartment eye-candy stories that the site is known for, with a look at Murray Moss’ dubious Midtown apartment, as well as a Battery Park home that has an indoor tree house. The edition will also include more realistic locations including a 375-square-foot dentist’s office converted into a studio apartment.

“I’m engaged in personal design and it’s what draws me in as a reader,” said Goodman. “You always want to know why people made the decisions they made.”

Of the 220-pages, 74 pages will be for advertisements with 90 percent from design advertisers such as Sicis, Poltrona, Frau, Kravet, SieMatic, Artmide and Ralph Pucci.

LadyLUX: What inspired you to start a fashion blog?

Inadequate Cliché: My previous blogs. My fashion blog grew up from my previous blogs on various topics. The first one was just a simple diary, everyday life of a 13year old girl (yes, it’s 7 years since I started blogging, phew!). I care about the aesthetic of things so much so I started updating my blog’s design every now a then when I learned something new. The obvious next step was to start maintaing a blog about graphic design (that has turned out to be my greatest hobby of all time) including a show off of my recent works. It showed me what a great tool blogging is when it comes to making new contacts and speed up the learning-of-new-things process by 100%. After some travel and photography posts mixed with some outfits I finally settled with having a fashion blog which turned out to be the best decision ever. It’s a mix of everything I love doing and learning about: fashion (obviously!), photography and graphic design.

LL: When you’re in need of some fashion inspiration, where do you look?

The respected Southern California film festival began13 years ago in Newport Beach, and offers filmgoers the rare opportunity to see premiers, meet the actors and filmmakers and attend galas.  Attendees can also sit in on Q&A sessions after each movie with screenwriters, directors, and cinematographers to receive an inside look at the industry.  This year’s film fest showcased 18 world premieres and over 450 films from 50 different countries.  They were all screened at the Triangle Square Cinemas in Costa Mesa, Island Cinema at Fashion Island, Edwards Big Newport Theater and Regency Lido Theatre in Newport Beach.

The creative personality began her career working for some of New York City’s greats including Zac Posen and Peter Som, but has also catered to mainstream, everyday women with three collaborated collections for the retail giant, Walmart. Yet, passionate as she was about the New York fashion scene, Zygmunt wasn’t satisfied. Determined to move back to her hometown of Chicago, she took her mother’s advice and did an internet search for “Chicago fashion.”

“Through the search I found the application for the 2009 class of the Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) and it was on the first web page I clicked on. It was the Sunday before the Friday it was due. I frantically started creating a company that today I am proud to call Zamrie. That Friday, the application was successfully handed in and I waited/sweated/held my breath to see if I would get an interview,” Zygmunt explained. “Two weeks later I was on my way home for Thanksgiving and got the call while on the plane. The interview was rough. I talked for almost the entire thing and was told it wouldn't be until January whether or not I would be accepted.”

A month later, she was selected as one of the 6 Designers in Residence for the Chicago Fashion Incubator. Zygmunt began her year at CFI in March of 2009 and Zamrie was born.

Presenting at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, the Zimmermann sisters’ Spring 2012 collection displayed a pale palette and feminine silhouettes. Soft shades of pink, blue, green and yellow mingled in an array of floral prints. The collection juxtaposed athletic influences with a girly sensibility exhibited in lace dresses with sheer overlays and ruffled skirts. Floral skirts, tops, halters and swimwear boasted perforation while hooded sweaters received drawstrings ties. Nicky and Simone combined sporty halters with strapless, ladylike dresses, hoodies with long maxi skirts and sheer tops with relax fit shorts.

Swimwear styles in one and two pieces also demonstrated the floral and athletic combination. Tiered perforated ruffle halters paired with bikini bottoms, ruched peplum tops gave swimwear a new twist and high-waisted bottoms joined with corsets...

Presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Ksubi’s Spring 2012 collection displayed a modern array of sporty ensembles. The muted palette of grey, light blue, pale green and metallic silver contrasted with silhouettes of anorak vests and matching shorts, athletic-inspired outerwear and fitted dresses. Single and Gorrow reinvented denim with loose drawstring vests and jackets layered over bandeaus and relaxed pants. Mesh sport bra tops were paired with hooded sweatshirt vests and metallic silver pants.

The sporty styles were balanced with black and white floral prints and mint green palm tree patterns but remained cohesive with an athletic sensibility. In monochrome fashion, floral jackets were styled with track-inspired shorts; palm tree t-shirts were combined with skin-hugging pants and infinity scarves; and fitted turtleneck sleeveless dresses were paneled...
