Destination Maternity: A do-gooder destination for maternity wear

Destination Maternity Corporation is the world’s largest designer and retailer of maternity clothing. But you may want to check them out not only for their fashionable maternity apparel, but their commitment to helping women in need. By partnering with Dignity U Wear, the company has helped women who have suffered domestic violence, emotional and/or physical abuse to receive clothing at no cost.

“We felt it was our job to help ensure that those without the means to buy maternity clothes are not forgotten. Our partnership with Dignity U Wear has helped us achieve our mission, which is to make sure that pregnant women look and feel good through their pregnancy,” Destination Maternity said to LadyLUX.

Since 2005, the maternity retailer has supplied more than 3,000 boxes of clothing worth more than $1 million to Dignity U Wear, providing women in need with maternity garments.

The mission of Dignity U Wear is to donate brand new clothing to schools and agencies that serve people in need, especially school children, veterans, and women and girls. The organization helps hundreds of agencies with a range of goals and missions, having so far provided more than 6.6 million articles of clothing to more than 450,000 people.

“Acquiring maternity clothing for disadvantaged women across the United States had been a real challenge for us until Destination Maternity stepped up and made a commitment to support our efforts … When a woman is facing an uncertain future due to a domestic violence situation, economic challenges or other difficult circumstances, receiving apparel makes a huge difference in how she feels about herself and her pregnancy. It provides her with a little hope, where there wasn’t any before,” Bob Bryan, executive director of Dignity U Wear, said in a statement.

Destination Maternity provides expecting mothers with stylish yet comfortable maternity clothes at a range of price points. From tailored suits for work to elegant eveningwear to comfortable chic casuals, its labels provide everything that pregnant women need during their term, with styles and prices for any pocketbook. Operating 2,061 stores – including Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod – as well as an e-commerce site, the company has plans to expand internationally.
