Neat Way to End World Hunger and Learn through FreeRice.com

LUXies, we just had to tell you about this new website, FreeRice.com, that offers you a way to learn for free and give back at the same time.

That’s right, simply by taking the time to learn and answer multiple choice quizzes you can donate 10 grains of rice with every answer. Think of it like Jeopardy, but where there are points there’s rice.

“FreeRice has a custom database containing knowledge questions at varying levels of difficulty. There are levels appropriate for beginners and levels that will challenge the most scholarly professors. In between are levels suitable for students of all ages, business people, homemakers, doctors, truck drivers, retired people. Everyone!”—according to their website.

The brainchild of John Breen, it was donated to the United Nations World Food Program and is run by people at Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. This inventive concept was designed to serve two purposes. One to help end world hunger and the second objective was to provide free education. They help raise money through the advertisements and sponsors on the page and all you have to do is visit the site and answer a few questions to help give back.

FreeRice does not make any money from this. FreeRice is a website committed to the cause of ending hunger around the world. It is run entirely for free and at no profit. All money (100%) raised by the site goes to the UN World Food Programme to help feed the hungry. Sponsors make all payments to the UN World Food Programme directly.—freerice.com

The subjects to choose from include Art, Chemistry, English, Geography, Languages and Math. Simply pick a subject and answer a few questions to help educate yourself AND feed the hungry! To date, 72,934,027,580 grains of rice have been donated through this unique system.

The whole concept of freerice.com is similar to the LadyLUX principle of ‘good for the sake of good.’ We absolutely fell in love with this website and hope that you’ll visit it today!

So LUXies, what do you think of the innovative concept of learning and simultaneously ending world hunger? Start your year off right and visit freerice.com to help be a part of making a difference!
