New Alternate Engine Search Option: Wolfram|Alpha
LUXies, there is a new search engine in town and there’s some speculations on how this new platform, Wolfram|Alpha, could possibly change the landscape of technology again!
Think Google meets Wikipedia when it comes to answering simple questions that you might have. It even has the capacity to solve math problems! However, with Wolfram|Alpha being in Beta release, it has its obvious share of kinks—but not to fear tech enthusiasts, this newly shiny beacon of technology is showing great promise.
Wolfram|Alpha is making the world’s knowledge computable. It is the first step in an ambitious, long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone. –via Wolfram|Alpha.com
The creator, Stephen Wolfram, is credible and well-known in certain academic communities. He is the author of A New Kind of Science and creator of the program Mathematica giving weight to the possibility of Wolfram|Alpha to fulfill its promise to redefine how knowledge is searched.
For instance, you could type in a name of a city perhaps and it would give you information like time of day, weather information, population and elevation. If you entered several cities at once it would actually create a comparison chart that allowed you to evaluate the similarities and differences in a number of important areas, such as cost of living and population.
This new platform is incorporating a whole new ‘algorithm’ for considering search options. It aims at providing information from a variety of sources all into one available and easy to use format!! Utilizing a platform that can actually calculate data assumptions on which products might be more environmentally friendly to what stock or to buy considering long-term trends!
The complaints have been in the comparison to ‘simple’ searches that it seems not able to answer. Although, that is to be expected in this version that was just released about two and half months ago, since it does not use the typical search engine format. It is aimed at answering questions and return factual information.
Try it out for yourself at Wolfram|Alpha, we here at LadyLUX would love to hear your thoughts. Could Wolfram|Alpha be the next ‘Google’??
