November Charity Event Guide: Everywhere

It’s here! Check out your November Charity Event Guide, featuring a medley of fun events all around the country that benefit some of our favorite causes. Whether you go for a Turkey Trot in Long Beach, attend a Mystery Date party in Miami, shop designer clothes in New York or go for some moustache rides in San Francisco, rest assured that you will be contributing to some truly excellent causes.

Las Vegas

What: Women’s Leadership Council Women’s Suit Drive
When: November 2
Las Vegas women: help others get back to work in style and confidence by donating gently-used suits and other business attire to the 5th Annual Women’s Suit Drive, hosted by the United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council. The WLC will be collecting items at the NV Energy parking lot at 6226 W. Sahara Ave starting at 7:00 am. The organization collected over 5,700 items in 2011 and is hoping for even more this year.

Austin

What: The Boys and Girls Club Black and White Gala
When: November 2
The Boys & Girls Club of Austin proudly invites you to its Black and White Gala at the AT&T Executive Conference Center. The event will feature live and silent auctions and performances by Bruce Hughes and Michael Israel. Help the Club celebrate the successes of the past year and continue to invest in bright futures for Austin’s kids.

Boston

What: Action for Boston Community Development 50th Anniversary Gala
When: November 2
This year, Action for Boston Community Development will be celebrating 50 years of battling poverty from the front lines with an elegant gala at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel. The event will feature a special performance by renowned singer, Natalie Cole (daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole), and Mark Shriver as the keynote speaker. From job training and nutrition education to youth programs and care for the elderly, the ABCD provides a wide range of programs designed to empower Boston communities to live with dignity and achieve their full potential.

Miami

What: Destination Fashion
When: November 10
For an exciting mix of fashion and philanthropy, get your tickets now to Destination Fashion, held at the Bal Harbour shops in Miami. The event features a great lineup of fun activities: a performance by Enrique Iglesias, Emilio Pucci’s Spring 2013 fashion show, enviable silent auction items donated by Bal Harbour’s high-end shops, gourmet dining and more. The event will be hosted by Tom Brokaw and co-chaired by Tommy Lee Jones and his wife, Dawn Jones, with all proceeds benefiting the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. The Buoniconti Fund is the fundraising arm of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, the world’s most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center.

What: MOCA Mystery Dates

When: November 17
For a unique and exciting event, don’t miss the Museum of Contemporary Art’s young international patrons annual gala, where guests will be treated to a glamorous dinner party. The mystery: guests will discover which party they will attend on the night of the big event! The MOCA Shakers’ Mystery Dates begins with a cocktail party at the museum, where guests will then disperse to their dinner destinations. The parties, hosted by a mix of creative professionals and entrepreneurs that share a love of contemporary art, provide access to some of the best private art collections in Miami and an unforgettable dining experience. Guests will reconvene after dinner at The Shore Club for a late-night party. All proceeds benefit MOCA’s exhibitions of experimental and emerging artists.

What: Fashion for Action
When: November 7
The fashion world will be out in force to attend the opening night reception of Fashion for Action to benefit Housing Works. Attendees will shop booths from over 250 top designers and retailers, including Bloomingdale’s, Christian Louboutin, Mark Jacobs, Rachel Zoe, Theory and Tom Ford, and bid on exclusive experiences and packages up for grabs in the auction. The booths will then be open to the public at the Chelsea Thrift Shop from November 8-11. Don’t miss this chance to score amazing items while supporting a most worthy cause. Housing Works’ mission is to end the dual crises of AIDS and homelessness through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services and entrepreneurial businesses.

What: Silver Hill Gala
When: November 28
Silver Hill Hospital
, a renowned nonprofit treatment center for mental illness and addiction in New Canaan, CT, will host a gala event at the famed Cipriani 42nd St. In addition to delectable food, there will be a live auction featuring many fabulous packages and a performance by Neil Sedaka. The one and only Martha Stewart will serve as Master of Ceremonies. All proceeds will go towards patient scholarships for those needing financial assistance for their residential treatment.

What: The Trevor Project Fall Fête
When: November 29
The Trevor Project
, the leading national organization providing crisis and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, invites one and all to the Fall Fête at the Angel Orensanz Center. The event, hosted by Tony Award nominee, John Tartaglia, will feature live music, a deluxe raffle prize and silent auction items. Don’t miss this chance to support the Trevor Project’s amazing work in saving lives, building accepting communities and changing public policy to create safe environments for LGBT youth.

Los Angeles

What: Long Beach Turkey Trot
When: November 22
Before stuffing your face this Thanksgiving, do some good for yourself and your community by taking part in the Long Beach Turkey Trot. Choose from the half-mile “Kid’s Wingding,” 5k or 10k races and participate in other fun events including the rubber chicken chucking contest and the “Mr. and Mrs. Drumsticks” best legs competition. Ready to gobble up those calories you just burned? Over 600 holiday pies will be given out to random finishers. Best of all, proceeds will benefit the Community Action Team, which sponsors beach cleanups and other events, and organizers will be holding a food drive the day of the race to distribute to the local food bank. Stretch, grab all the nutritious, nonperishable food you can carry, and get running!

San Francisco

What: Movember Gala Parté
When: November 29
Any of the men in your life sporting moustaches in support of Movember, the explosively popular annual event raising awareness and funds for men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer? Show the Mo Bros some love by supporting them as a Mo Sista and celebrate your efforts at the Gala Parté at Ruby Skye. Partiers will have the chance to dress up in their best Movember costume, show off their finely cultivated facial hair and compete in a number of categories including Best Mo in Character, Miss Movember and Man of Movember. Don’t live in San Francisco? No worries! The Partés happen all over the country. Check out the Movember website for details.

San Diego

What: MS Dinner Auction

When: November 10
San Diegans, clear your calendar! You are invited to the Coronado Bay Resort for the city’s largest black-tie charity auction to bid on nearly 1,000 packages in live and silent auctions. This year’s theme, “British invasion,” invites guests to “Keep calm and bid on,” as they enjoy entertainment and a four-course gourmet dinner. All proceeds benefit the research and programs of the Pacific South Coast chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
