Rachel Roy reveals Fall 2010 Collection in Newport Beach

Orange County fans of Rachel Roy gathered for an exclusive show of her Fall 2010 Collection at Neiman Marcus in Newport Beach, Calif on Oct. 15.

Around 50 people attended the presentation, which showed off Roy’s attention to trends with eye-catching animal prints and tribal-inspired tops. As with her accessories, Roy wasn’t afraid to mix things up and styled her models the same way she styles her clients: fun and fresh.

Although her fashions showed off her ability to take a risk, they were still in tune with her renowned sensibility towards timeless pieces, offering fun prints, but in classic cuts that last beyond the fall racks.

A nice aspect of her new line is that it has no generation gap. A twenty-something can don her glittery pants and embroidered jacket, and so can a chic mother on her way to the country club.

A giraffe-printed shift dress can be dressed up with black jacket pumps or given a younger vibe with metallic accessories and a fur vest.

For fall, flexibility was apparently a key component for the New York-based designer.

Roy addressed her clothing’s ability to multitask in a live Q&A with Neiman’s general manager, Ariela Shan.

“I design for a woman that needs formal workwear, that needs cocktail wear…that needs to be able to get dressed quickly and go on with her life,” she told the crowd. “I would like the clothes to last in your wardrobe and not be so easily dated.”

She explained that she doesn’t go to just one source for inspiration, but instead searches for timeless designs that will remain classic. However, she admitted, her collection was heavily influenced by Northern Africa.

What fall piece can Roy not live without?

“You know, the trench coat does really take me so far,” the designer divulged. “I really do wear it as a dress (and) wear it as an overcoat. It is quite strong, and it’s quite feminine at the same time.”
