Radar: Sarkozy Awards Galliano with Legion of Honor

President of France, Nicolas Sarcozy invited John Galliano over on June 24 to anoint him as a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. He did make quite an entrance at the Royal Palace, rocking fishtail braids in his hair and a tux-like getup. Dior’s famed couturier was celebrated from his rise as a tiny boy in Gibraltar to the fashion capital of the world, Paris. Friends in the industry were there to lift their champagne glasses in his honor, Manolo Blahnik told WWD, “I’ve always admired what he’s done, and yet I feel like he’s just getting started.” Famous faces, such as Kate Moss, were there to share intimate stories from working with Galliano. Moss said, “He taught me how to walk when I was 14.” Now one of the most renowned models in the world, it seems Galliano did her quite a favor!

After receiving the award, Galliano was kind and soft spoken as he told the crowd, “I am honored and humbled to receive this award that I share with you all.”
