Tech Advancements to Turn Any Surface into a Touch Screen

Imagine a world where you literally will be able to turn your window into an actual full-blown ‘computer’ simply with a transparent film.

Well, that’s exactly what Portugal-based company Displax is aimed to do. With their amazing technological advances they’ve created a ‘touch-sensitive’ film that can turn any hard surface into an interactive device! Now that’s what we call LUX-tastic!

“It is extremely powerful, precise and versatile,” says Miguel Fonseca, chief business officer at Displax to Wired.com. “You can use our film with on top of anything including E Ink, OLED and LCD displays.”

With the advancements of ‘touch’ screen devices, such as the iPhone, it seems this more interactive approach has driven further innovation to expand upon this concept. Displax aims to take this one-touch phenomenon to the multi-touch approach, expanding our current view of multi-dimensionality through tech systems.

So you might be asking how does this work? Well, through about 100 different microns and small micro sensors this film decodes up to 16 different fingers at one time. Though, they’re looking to expand this. Just as easy as using your iPhone this new film is set to transform our current way of tech-living by expanding the capabilities of our current devices.

Do note that currently it’s set to be used with both opaque and transparent surfaces; it comes with it own ‘firmware, driver and can connect via a USB connection with a control panel for exact user calibration and settings.’

Displax will design this new film to be compatible with your current devices providing a ‘bigger’ screen for movies from your phone or reading an e-book on your wall next to your bed. As you can see this tech-savvy invention truly has endless possibilities!

We definitely look forward to the finalization of this technology and look forward to seeing how this will enhance the way we use technology and mobile living. Some questions yet to be answered: Will this film be able to be transferred easily from surface to surface? Can we take it with us on the road? Will this technology have the ability for customization to user prints or available to anyone and any device at a time?

So LUXies, what do you think of this new idea of turning any surface into a tech-savvy device? How does it rate on your inspiring innovation list?
