The Infamous NYC Tavern on the Green says Farewell Dec 31
The extravagant landmark NYC restaurant, Tavern on the Green will be shutting its doors come December 31, 2009. Located in Central Park, it was created by the ‘legendary restaurateur’ Warner Leroy.
Opened originally in the Great Depression era, it’s been an elite dining location for many of New York’s most sophisticated, as well as Hollywood’s finest. Millions of people have come to dine in the ‘Land of Oz’ and will continue to tell about their experiences there. The good news is that you still have a few days to enjoy the final festivities at one of the most popular NYE locations of its time. Though, you can make it an even more lasting memory, by attending their farewell New Year’s Bash!

The New Year’s event will be offered in two different packages. One affair will be located in the ‘Chestnut’ room from 9 pm until 4 am. It’ll include a six-course menu, full bar, Newallo Quartet, disco party admission, one bottle of champagne per couple and a continental breakfast. This pricey affair will cost $500 per person. The second event will take place in the ‘Park’ room and will include a six-course menu, strolling guitarist Hanon Harchol, full open bar, Champagne toast, disco party admission and will end at 3 am. This affair will cost $375 per person. Do note that tax and gratuity are included in all of the prices! If you’d like to attend the ‘Farewell Party’ without the extravagant dinner and entertainment, then you can attend for $175 per person and doors will open at 9:30 pm. So once January 2010 rolls around, every item that has made Tavern on the Green so special throughout all of these years will be auctioned off. This means all of the famous chandeliers, stained glass and other antiques must go! The auction will start officially on January 13 and continue through January 14. You can preview the items beginning January 6-12. The auction will be held in the Tavern on the Green’s Crystal Room. If you’d like to attend, simply click HERE for your bidder agreement form.
