Fight Cancer Beautifully with SU2C’s Ugly Holiday Sweater Campaign

Everyone knows that December is a very special time to be with family and friends while donning a very special piece of clothing—an ugly holiday sweater! This cute and comical staple of the season can help raise cancer research funds for Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) digital Ugly Holiday Sweater Campaign. Through December, everyone who loves or loves to hate the ugly holiday sweater can heighten cancer awareness by sharing, liking and mocking the large amount of ugly sweater pictures posted on social media sites. For every day that an ugly holiday sweater is worn, participants can turn their bad taste into support for this great cause.

From December 1 until the 31, those who decide to promote cancer awareness and raise funds for SU2C by wearing their ugly holiday sweater can participate in two easy ways. Participants first decide how many days in the month they can stand to wear their unflattering casualwear. They will then sign up at SU2C.org/ugly to create their own Ugly Sweater fundraising page where family members, friends and coworkers can donate a “per day” amount to benefit SU2C. The other option is to host an Ugly Holiday Sweater party and ask that each guest give a suggested donation via a personal fundraising page.

“This campaign gives everyone a chance to do something good while embracing a favorite holiday tradition: sporting their favorite ugly sweaters,” said Pam Williams, member of SU2C’s Executive Leadership Council. “It’s time to pull those ugly sweaters out of mothballs and put them to work at office parties, family gatherings and even at the mall. This campaign is our way of saying, ‘Hey cancer, it’s gonna get ugly.’”

Proceeds raised through this Ugly Holiday Sweater Campaign go directly to funding SU2C’s groundbreaking research. SU2C brings together doctors and scientists from different disciplines of various institutions to collaborate on research that will deliver new therapies to cancer patients quickly and save more lives.

Those participating can help raise more awareness for this fundraising effort by sharing, liking and mocking the swarm of ugly sweater photos posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #uglysweater.
