Barbie to Become ‘Hollywood Royalty’

Expect the iconic doll that many of us have grown up loving to be gracing the ‘big’ screen. That’s right LUXies, it’s been brought to our attention that Universal Pictures has signed a deal with Mattel to create a ‘live-action film’ around their signature Barbie collection!

“Barbie is the most famous doll in history, a unique cultural icon in the world of brands,” said Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger. “So many representations of Barbie frequent pop culture. We’re grateful to Mattel for entrusting us with this extraordinary opportunity.”

Something we all once dreamed of will now be coming to life. We here at LadyLUX, wonder which supporting characters will also be invited to the join Barbie on the big screen. Will Ken be part of the action with this golden-tan and light hair? And what about Skipper; will she be in on the action? All we know is that there will be plenty of characters to choose from, since Barbie has held over 120 different careers in her 50-year span.

As of now, Universal is shopping for writers to shape the creative direction of the up and coming film. They have signed producer Laurence Mark, who has just wrapped with the movie ‘Julie and Julia’. To maintain true to the brand and essence of Barbie, this collaboration will also include executive producers Richard Dickson and Rob Hudnut from Mattel.

As of now, the date for release has not been determined.
