Google is buzzing with fashion website debut

Easily one of the biggest brands in the world, Google announced that on Wednesday it will debut a fashion website. Boutiques.com will compete with other fashion search engines, such as SHOPSTYLE, with virtual designer boutiques. With a click of the mouse, shoppers will be transferred to the designer’s website or a retailer where they can make their purchase.

Besides designers, shoppers can curate their own boutiques. WWD reported that Google is approaching celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Katie Holmes to pop up their own storefronts so shoppers can check out their personal selections and dress just like the stylish stars.

CNBC previously reported that Google gets 2 billion searches a day, so it is safe to assume that launching a fashion website could make the Internet giant a fierce competitor in the industry. SHOPSTYLE and Polyvore each get around 1.6 million unique visitors per month.

Top stylists such as Britt Bardo, who works with Cameron Diaz, and Estee Stanley, whose clients include Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, reportedly were recruited to lend their fashion-forward editing eyes to the new website, according to Elle.com.
