Human Rights Campaign honors Anna Wintour for supporting gay community

The Human Rights Campaign has elected to honor Vogue Editor Anna Wintour for her work in the field of gay rights, reported Vogue UK. As a strong supporter of the United States Marriage Equality movement, especially New Yorkers for Marriage Equality, Wintour will be given an Ally for Equality award during a celebration on Feb. 4.

With more than 1 million members and advocates around the globe, the HRC represents the nation’s biggest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender advocacy group. According to the HRC’s website, the organization “seeks to improve the lives of LGBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs.”

The Ally award is designed to pay tribute to a non-LGBT individual who has shown exceptional support for the LGBT community.
