India’s Royal Courts Showcased through the Maharaja Exhibit in London

Looking for a culturally LUX-infused exhibition?

Well look no further with the Maharaja, meaning ‘great king,’ which was created to showcase the historic splendor of India’s Royal Courts.

The exhibit is located in London, and open now through January 17th at the Victoria Albert Museum. You can catch it also in Munich Germany come February 12 through May 23.

The culture of the maharajas within India is uncovered through the use of art and other culturally infused items from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. Expect to find exquisite jewels and glorious swords among some of the most glam features of this historic display.

Over 250 items are on display to create this secular historic exhibit of wealth and royalty. Divided into 5 sections to tell a seamless story, beginning with the ‘Royal Spectacle’ and leading to ‘Kingship’ then onto ‘Shifting of Power’ in the 18th and 19th century. Which then leads to ‘The Raj’ two-tier system of control and ends with ‘Princely India’ and the shift into British imperial regime.

For those who are unable able to visit the exhibit in person, you can pick up a book that has been created to document the historic display! Called ‘Maharaja,’ the book can be purchased right through amazon.com. This book displays the history through picture form and captures the glory of the jewels in perfect style.
