Is it Possible to Translate Fear into Action?

Hello LUX Nation! It’s become apparent this past month that there are some common messages we are bombarded with on a daily basis, regardless of the medium. The messages all seem flavored with some ‘fear’ based mentality and although, I know most of you are strong, independent thinkers it can still take a toll on our psyche! Yes, I do believe that it is important to be informed, but the constant dire messaging can also have an adverse impact on our own personal outlook without us really being aware of it.

Fear is a necessary emotion, although overused, it can become debilitating. The positive side of fear is that it helps us know when we need to protect ourselves and to take extra precaution before preceding. On the flip side, it can also cause us to be overly cautious and hesitate in taking the appropriate risks, which could make a situation even worse. So the question remains, how do we best manage our fear?

My belief is that it’s best to call it out. Address it head on by first acknowledging to yourself you are ‘scared.’ It is important to note when we are fearful and to recognize when our fear might be holding us back. I know some of you might hear this and get a little concerned. Some might even believe in the approach of ‘ignoring’ our fears—worried by some how giving fear attention will cause them to become even more real. Here’s the situation, regardless if you address them or not, our fears are already ‘real’ if we carry them around. By actually validating our own thoughts and accepting how we feel, we then can create space to separate our fear from the ‘core-motive’ behind it. This separation can cause us to address what the true reason for our fearful state might be, and possibly equip us with a much needed different perspective. This is where we can then start to become ‘empowered’ to take a different approach, or have the courage to do what we know is best, regardless of our fears!!

This action forward despite our fears helps to build our courage in the face of adversity! The more we push ourselves to reflect or to take action in the face of our fear, we provide ourselves with the opportunity to build the skills necessary to address our fears more proactively in the future! Remember, we are not alone. Leaning on a friend for support is always a positive decision. We all need support and guidance as we venture into a new territory. Although, it’s only when we start to appreciate the situation for what it is that then we can truly acknowledge the truth behind our own beliefs.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. –Eleanor Roosevelt

Transparency, truth, and growth are values we stand for here at LadyLUX. We encourage you to embrace who you are, and to not let your fears stop you from being the person you are meant to be in every moment of every day! You were born with special gifts, talents, perspectives and values—honor them! At the same time, we would like to learn from you. How do you handle this fear-based messaging? What seems to work best for you when you are faced with fear?

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others. –Marianne Williamson
