Jason Wu’s online expansion

Jason Wu has just unveiled his new – and yes, legitimate – Twitter account. The handle he chose: “MissWu_NY,” in the guise of the owl logo Wu recently released.

“She’s sort of this phantom muse who embodies what we’re about,” Wu said to WWD. “I thought it would be more interesting to have her perspective. Having a bird that tweets — it just seemed natural, right?”

The digital expansion does not stop there for Wu. His redone website launches June 6, complete with new video content and collaborations.

“As we grow, we want to have that direct interaction with the customers,” Wu told WWD. “I want to tell our story in a deeper way.”

In alignment with Wu’s urge to tell that story, the site offers a new section, “Craftsmanship,” which allows viewers to get a personal peek into the insider side of the collection.

“Unless you come to the showroom, you don’t see all the work that goes into one garment,” Wu explained. “With today’s fast fashion, it’s important to give people reasons why we are a luxury brand. I want them to see how laces are embroidered, or that what looks like ruffles from afar are actually 50 clusters of hand-sewn flowers.”

One of the main points of the new site is to promote the brand’s e-commerce. So far handbags have been added, and ready-to-wear will be next. In celebration of the launch, Wu is offering a giveaway on his Facebook page: One lucky customer will receive a $1,500 online shopping spree.
