Calling all eco-LUXies, seeking a paid vacation in exchange for their service to our oceans!!

Malibu Rum has partnered with Reef Check to offer an all expense paid trip to help preserve the oceans’ reefs to a special select few, or perhaps 10!! What could be more LUX-tastic then a trip that offers you a tropical vacation while giving back to our planet?!?

Get your island on while giving back by becoming one of ten Malibu Beach Interns, who will be selected to conduct Reef Check surveys on the coasts of Thailand, the Maldives or the Philippines, all on behalf of Malibu Rum. –via official website

So, what will it take to qualify?!? Well LUX Nation, before you start packing those bags, you must be 21 years old and have a valid passport!! If it is yes to both, then you must submit your application by August 31, 2009. This process includes submitting a 500-word submission that details why you should be selected, how you would spread the word about the health of our reefs, and what motivates you to positively impact your community. And what will qualify you to become a ‘beach intern’ you ask? As you guessed, it will require some training as part of this internship process and it definitely means you need to love the water and know how to swim!!

“What we love about the Malibu/Reef Check Partnership is that it is very real – with on-the-ground training in reef monitoring – the core of the Reef Check program,” said Dr. Gregor Hodgson, Founder and Executive Director of Reef Check. “With Malibu’s help we can reach out to so many thousands of young people and engage them in marine conservation.”

All applicants will be reviewed by a ‘committee’ and narrowed down to the Top 20 by the beginning of September. Which then will require a one-on-one phone meeting to select the lucky 10 beach interns by September 28, 2009!
