Neiman Marcus focuses on international sales

Neiman Marcus is aiming to push its international markets with plans to start a Chinese website in July 2013 and offer worldwide shipping on the main site before the holiday season begins. Presently, the luxury retailer only receives international sales by shipping to Canada from its US websites.

The plan began earlier this year when Neiman Marcus took a 37% stake in Glamour Sales Holding Limited, a privately held e-commerce company based in Hong Kong. The group is known for its leading flash sales site and aims to launch a full-price e-commerce website in China by July of next year.

“There are a number of ways we could approach international expansion,” said Neiman Marcus Group Chief Executive Karen Katz to the Reuters Retail and Consumer Summit. “What we've chosen for today is to launch a full-price NeimanMarcus.com.cn site in China and to really focus our efforts in China through e-commerce.”

To begin implementation, a number of senior executives from Neiman Marcus have already moved to Shanghai.

“The one thing that is for sure at the Neiman Marcus Group is e-commerce is becoming a larger and larger percentage of our total business,” Katz said.

Online sales accounts for about 20% of revenue.
