Paul McCartney Rocks Coachella

Coachella 2009 was definitely an event that will go down in music history. The three day, multi-stage music festival infamously known for its indie acts kicked off with none other than the legendary Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney set the tone for the weekend, showing his 66 years has not slowed him down in the least and he still has what it takes to command an audience. The two time, multi-talented Rock and Roll Hall of Famer lived up to his name, performing an amalgamation of hits drawing from the Beatles to Wings to his own solo material. The concert lasted for two and a half hours and Paul came out for two separate encores!!

The remainder of the weekend didn’t disappoint with big name acts such as The Killers, DJ Am and Peter Bjorn. Not to mention, the music selection that spanned just about every genre of music from hip hop to rock to electronic. Celebrities such as Paris and Nikki Hilton, Zac Efron and Chloe Sevingny were on the scene, perusing the tents and dancing to artists MIA, Thievery Corporation, and Public Enemy. The attitude and ambiance of the festival was fun and light hearted, serving as the perfect antidote to the stress of recent recession hardships.

“It was the first Coachella under President Obama, and after spending much of its existence fueled by political anger, with many performers speaking out against the war and the Bush administration, this year’s festival found the crowd significantly mellowed and ready to relax.” Quote The Los Angeles Times.

The festival ended with a slight hiccup when closing act The Cure was faced with an unexpected power outage. As we know the show must go on, and the band being true musicians didn’t miss a beat and seamlessly adjusted to a performance sans speakers and lights. Despite this mishap, the weekend still proved to be an event to remember, filled with loads of fun and phenomenal music!

The guys over at Goldenvoice really outdid themselves this time and have left us wanting more. Looking forward to buying my ticket for Coachella 2010 pre-sale!
