Pavilion of Art & Design London brings together 60 galleries for modern art fair

Drawing together more than 60 galleries across 11 nations, the Pavilion of Art & Design London is celebrating its fifth year as a stunning, eclectic art emporium. From Oct. 12 to 16, upcoming and established gallery owners and dealers will congregate to display quality art at London’s Berkeley Square.

As the leading modern art and design fair, PAD has selected the best of the best from Europe, Asia and North America in the fields of Modern Art, Design, Decorative Arts, Photography and Tribal Art. The fair, known for its diversity, sophistication and class, brings together some of the most covetable art pieces from 1860 to the present. The pavilion is hosted by the Société d’Organisation Culturelle, an organization dedicated to backing quality in the arts.

In 1997, fair directors Patrick Perrin and Stéphane Custot founded the Pavillon des Arts et du Design Paris, which quickly became one of the highlights of the cultural year in France. Inspired by cabinets de curiosités, the exposition originally focused on the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and changed direction in 2007 to concentrate on art and design from 1860 to the present. The Pavilion of Art & Design London was created in 2007 along the same lines, committed to exhibiting post-war and contemporary design and the decorative arts. Two years later, modern art was added.

Per usual, Moët Hennessy will support the donation of an important work of design or decorative art to the Victoria & Albert Museum under the auspices of the Moët Hennessy-PAD London Prize. The prize is designed to foster a better understanding of design and the decorative arts and encourage new and promising talent. The museum nominates three works of art presented at the fair, and a renowned judging panel of important leaders in art, fashion, culture, communication and business will select one winning item to be gifted to the V&A Museum’s permanent collection. In previous years, the museum has gained monumental pieces from Friedman Benda (USA) and Carpenters Workshop Gallery (UK). A “Best Stand” and “Best Object” prize will also be awarded to recognize quality and innovation.

Irish designer and architect David Collins, famous for his luxury design, has been asked to dress the entrance section of the fair by creating an opulent foyer.
