Pre-Fall 2012 trends: red

If Pre-Fall 2012 had to claim a color for the season, it would be red. Designers across the runways were obsessed with the passionate color, drenching every possible accessory and piece of apparel with it. Acne brought back the red coat, Michael Kors gave skirts a lively twist, and Maison Martin Margiela made a bold statement with a dress accessorized in monochrome fashion. Shades varied from a brilliant bold to a deeper oxblood tone. Must-have red piece of the season? Red shoes. Chloe, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone are already clicking their heels together.

Acne’s willem wool coat in red presents a cheerful vibe. The tailored coat boasts a pleated balloon-effect skirt, adding a feminine touch. Layer the coat onto ensembles of grey or black as an unexpected finish.

Miu Miu’s A-line crepe skirt with bead embellishment is sophistication at its best. Graphite and lemon crystal beads adorn the patch pockets. For a “lady in red” ensemble, combine with a red blouse and heels. To emphasize the bright shade, pair with a neutral colored blouse.

Rupert Sanderson nailed it with the red suede Lara pointed toe pumps. The pumps feature tonal stitching and a matching suede wrapped heel. Add the pumps to a bright ensemble for a rainbow effect or style them as a pop of color against black or tan looks.

Trade in the LBD this season for a Little Red Dress. Herve Leger’s one shoulder stripe dress is just what the cocktail party ordered. The bright tonal rays stretch across the dress diagonally for a flattering look. Step into sky-high pumps for a night out or add on a black blazer and smart pumps to create a daytime office ensemble.

Red hot pants is a need and Citizens of Humanity made them just right. The day-to-night chic leatherette coat pants can be worn relaxed with knits or for more fun, combine with a black leather peplum top.
