Spring 2012 Trends: Scarf influence

Spotted on the Spring 2012 Milan runways, designers looked to the silhouettes, prints and patterns of silk scarves for inspiration. The runway offered an array of scarf dresses that were wrapped, tied and ruched, but the style was also translated onto button-down blouses, pants, shorts and even blazers for a fresh take. In brights or neutrals, scarf prints were blown up and oversized, creating an all-over effect, or patchworked together. Whichever style you prefer, it’s time to add scarf-influenced pieces to your Spring wardrobe.

Mixing chevrons with panels of white, Thakoon’s blazer is effortlessly cool. The red, white and black print is featured on the cotton jacket with wing lapels and a single button closure. For a full monochrome outfit, pair the blazer with its matching top and tulip skirt. The jacket can also easily be combined with jeans or bring a pop of interest to an all-black ensemble.

Minkpink’s high-waisted shorts borrow paisley prints for a sophisticated appeal. In neutral multi-shades, the style is ready for breezy, sunny days. Take the look to a hippie level with a bell-sleeve blouse or into nighttime with a black pleated shirt. Round out the look with lace-up booties.

With a pop of yellow, the geo scarf foulard top and pants by Clover Canyon is Spring chic. The bottom and top can be worn together to bring a pajama feel or separately for a burst of style. Bring out the sunshine color in the blouse top with yellow tailored straight-leg ankle pants. Combine the pants with an eyelet cropped top and a killer pair of platform heels.

Tibi’s wide-leg jumpsuit features a white floral print on a cobalt blue and black silk base. The style embraces a ladylike manner and can be worn on tropical vacations when paired with flats or dressed up with macramé knotted sandals. Finish the ensemble with a cool fold-over clutch.

NSF’s harem pants mixes stripes with graphic repeats. The silk-cropped style brings together colors of sulphur, clay and gold to create a neutral look. For a downtown chic vibe, couple the pair of pants with a mesh open-knit sweater, a black oversized blazer and open-toe booties.

Mixing up a variety of prints including chevrons, diagonal stripes and abstracts, Clover Canyon’s tribal scarf print pants is a bold statement. Embrace the boldness by teaming the pants with a colored top in pink or green, or let the prints steal the spotlight and stick with a natural tan button-up.

Exuding a bohemian chic essence, Free People’s Moroccan bandana dress takes the print all over. The blue and white paisley print is contrasted with yellow and red braided trim and straps. Carry the vibe through with low-key flats or wedges and add on a straw boater hat.
