Stockholm Fashion Week Spring 2012: Whyred

Always modern with a touch of ‘60s style, Whyred is known for clean lines and quirky details. Since its launch in 1999, the Swedish brand has held true to these values. The label – finding inspiration in good tailoring, contemporary music and art – has built a following with the indie fashion crowd.

At Stockholm Fashion Week Spring 2012, the Whyred collection epitomized everything the brand stands for. Chief designer Roland Hjort kept it clean with neutral tones of white, black, tan and gray, with pops of bold red. Color was subtly infused into the line using watercolor prints and green plaid, while materials had simple textures to give depth.

For the sunny, warm season, the collection had everything from wide-leg trousers and silk shorts to blazers, button-ups and dresses.

Menswear button-up shirts have been no stranger to the runway and grew stronger this Spring, as Whyred made apparent. The collection utilized the versatile shirt for dresses, pairing it with sweaters and blazers.

Going for creative with the dresses, Hjort crafted front-zipped sleeve shifts; knee-length, halter-inspired pieces; and floor-grazing button-ups. Each dress had a character of its own but represented modern and ladylike themes. Standout dresses included a glamorous, sleeveless A-line maxi in red and gray with a metallic finish.

With wide-leg trousers and dress shorts, looks were styled with button-up shirts fastened up to the collar and layered with sweaters. Sweaters were made perfect for Spring in light, thin mesh materials, with either short- or long-sleeve options. The layering was exhibited in monochrome whites and creams as well as contrasting red, tan and black combinations.

Whyred’s tailored collection was freshly styled with an easy, effortless manner. There was nothing stuffy about these button-up shirts.
