True Food Kitchen opens with Oceana dinner
On July 31, True Food Kitchen will open their second location at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Calif. The restaurant, which is based in Phoenix, is a joint project between the FOX restaurant group and best selling health guru Dr. Andrew Weil. The menu offers the best of healthy eating with options for vegetarians, vegans and those with gluten allergies. Oceana, a non profit committed to sustaining the oceans was a natural choice for the opening night dinner, which donates all profits from the $50 prix fixe menu to the charity. True Food has an obvious conscientiousness in regards to not only human health, but also by the way we consume by choosing sustainable, organic and locally grown foods.
True Food Kitchen is providing a delicious three course meal and wine for the small price. They haven’t hinted at the menu but some of their most coveted dishes are the Organic Ricotta Ravioli with Kale Pesto, Maitake Mushrooms and Red Peppers, or the Wild Pacific Halibut with Perubian Potato, Aspargus, Snap Peas, Ginger and Umami Sauce. Who knew eating healthy could sound so yummy? Even though they promote a balanced diet, that doesn’t mean ditching a good drink. The meal is paired with a wine from their varied collection, which features varietals from France, Argentina, Italy, Spain and of course, California. Although it’s not included, guests may want to return for their organic cocktails. Their drinks are made from 100% natural juices and independent distillers such as Casa Noble Tequila, Square 1 Vodka and Junipero Gin. The Sun Warrior—with vodka, grapefruit, pineapple and jalapeƱo—will definitely give the night a little kick.
Besides donating their meal to the ocean-minded cause, there will be two drawings benefiting Oceana as well. Guests will have the chance to win a gift basket full of Dr. Weil necessities, such as vitamins and books by the man himself totaling $2,000. Local businesses are donating their goods as well. Fashion Island is donating a $500 shopping spree, The Island Hotel has a one night stay with breakfast for two and, of course, True Food Kitchen has two $100 gift certificates ready for the lucky winners.
