Zoomingo creates new “Hot or Not” shopping game app

Zoomingo, a digital shopping service that allows you to scout local deals on your mobile phone, has just released a new phone app that introduces a game-like feature to its platform. Zoomingo is a digital shopping service that helps you locate deals on your mobile phone in your local area. Shoppers are now able to share unreported sales they spot in stores and to rate deals spotted by others.

The new “Hot or Not” game can be played within the app to rate deals, reported Tech Crunch. Shoppers can earn points and are presented with more deals that match their interest through the “Zoomsense” recommendation engine. The more points totaled up, the more chances shoppers have to be entered into weekly drawings for prizes.

To play the game, players tap the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” button to rate a deal item. If the player has no opinion, they can “skip” ahead. Each rating translates to 5 points and the top 50 points earners for the week are entered into the drawing.

Created by CEO Shirish Nadkarni and CTO Krishnan Seshadrinathan, Zoomingo branched out from the language learning service, Livemocha. Launched in October, the company focuses on clothes, shoes, handbags, beauty, jewelry and home products that appeal to bargain shoppers and daily deal hunters.
Bargains for the app are collected from over 70,000 retail outlets such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, JC Penney, William Sonoma, Dillard’s, Kohl’s, Target, Wal-Mart and many more.

The “Hot or Not” game will help Zoomingo show more deals from smaller boutiques and local shops where its data-sourcing techniques are limited. The game also serves to customize the app and then cater to shoppers’ interests. Players will receive better recommendations the more they play.

According to the Zoomingo founders, users rate over 20,000 deals and save thousands of items to their shopping lists each day. Currently, the Zoomingo community is quite small with around 100,000 users, but the app is listed as one of the top ten “Catalogs” of the iTunes App store.
