Berlin Fashion Week 2010: Grecian Goddess

The Germans didn’t disappoint fashion spectators this July. Berlin Fashion Week was in full swing last week and LadyLux is here to provide you with a peek into the German fashion extravaganza. Although most of the designers were unbeknownst to the U.S., there were a few familiar faces, such as Custo Barcelona, Kaviar Gauche, and Marcel Ostertag.

While some designers separated themselves from the rest with punky street clothes or hippie chic, others revealed a common conscience within the presentations. One look that was pretty predominant was long, flouncy, feminine Grecian gowns. Fabrics tended to go on the sheer side, in light shades of lavender, grey, green and gold. The structure of seasons past was traded for a comfortable drape, and the spring looks, as expected, showed lots of skin.

Dawid Tomaszewski’s dress, in long layers of grey with a tight bustier, can be envisioned on a New York woman, peeking out under a black coat with silver heels. The presentation was a first for Tomaszewski, and from the looks of it, he could very well be catapulted into fashion stardom.

In a muted mint, Kaviar Gauche impressed the audience with a look straight out of ancient Greece. The soft layers were draped sensually across the model’s body, missing a shoulder here or exposing a leg there, making female onlookers lust after the feminine frock.

It was a little surprising to see a delicate gown make it into Shumacher’s lineup, which was full of silvery separates and short cocktail dresses. Known for her impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail, her flowy metallic gown was no exception. Minimalist and keeping with her color palette, the dress was able to stand on its own, but at the same time stay in step with the rest of her collection.
