Berlin Fashion Week wrapped up an eventful show

Celebrating fashion and lifestyle, Berlin Fashion Week wrapped up a week of exciting events and shows on July 8th. The international extravaganza occurs twice a year, in January and July, to welcome buyers, trade experts, fashion lovers and the media to enjoy runway shows, awards ceremonies, trade shows, exhibitions and off-site events.

This season’s event ran from July 3-8 with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin shows occurring on the 4th through the 7th at the Siegessäule monument. Over 50 designers showcased their Spring 2013 collections, including Hugo by Hugo Boss, Dimitri, Escada Sport, Lena Hoschek, Blame, Issever Bahri and Michael Sontag. Highlights included Escada Sport’s colorful striped series, Hugo’s dark blue and black suits for menswear and Blacky Dress’s ikat separates.

Running alongside the shows, industry favorite tradeshows were available for buyers. Bread & Butter, the leading trade fair for streetwear and urban wear, presented from July 4-6. Bright, the New York Trade Show, Show & Order and The Gallery Berlin also exhibited throughout the week.

Berlin Fashion Week also showed the green side of fashion, which has become a tradition to the bi-yearly event. As eco-fashion and sustainable design have continued to grow in the city with companies, platforms, networks and associations putting forth their efforts, the practice is spotlighted with dedicated presentations focused on unique themes and even a store.

The Lavera Showfloor Berlin displayed green fashion brands that prove the importance of sustainability in avant-garde fashion, while the GREENShowroom displayed high-end brands and lifestyle labels that manufacture under sustainable conditions. Brands with ecological and sustainable standard requirements took part in the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin. Berlin’s first Upcycling Fashion store opened its doors from Monday to Saturday with exclusive Austrian brands such as MILCH, Steinwidder, Kontiki, Mija T. Rosa, karmaeleon and milchring.

Berlin’s next fashion week is planned for January 2013.
