Designer Rick Owens Opens First Furniture Exhibit in London

Known for his dramatic silhouettes and use of texture, designer Rick Owens is now making a creative statement with his furniture masterpieces! Don’t even think about calling his furniture a ‘home collection” because his pieces are much more intricate and sophisticated!

Architecture was once simply a hobby used as a source of inspiration from some of his most cherished design idols such as Le Corbusier, Jacques-Emile Ruhlman, Rober Mallet-Stevens and Eileen Gray. Now, Owens has turned his personal designs into a full-fledged furniture collection separate from his fashion line!

“I look at architecture for inspiration. If I’m wondering where to go with a collection, all I need to do is open a Le Corbusier book, and the consistency, the integrity of his work tells me what my next step should be,” said Owens

The opening of his first exhibition in London, named ‘Evolution’ at Sebastian + Barquet’s gallery, is an important benchmark for the designer. It will run through the end of December and will showcase ‘raw-edged chairs, sofas, tables and lamps crafted from materials supple and sharp: Antlers, black and white marble, shearling and fisher fur.’

All of his collections are limited-edition pieces for sale with prices ranging from $2,970 to $36,300. The weighty lifestyle piece is a suede and wooden sofa that is meant to make a unique statement. You won’t find his pieces at your local furniture store; designs of this caliber are available only in upscale art galleries.
