Inspired by her days as a busy Ivy League student, Minna always felt it was easier to consolidate her makeup than to carry around a portable makeup counter, when traveling back and forth from coast to coast. “About 7 - 8 years ago, in order to make my routine easier and shorter, I modified big name brand palettes to fit all of my eyeshadows and blushes into one case. I used these modified palettes for about 5 years, and over time, I made more modified palettes for family and friends,” she told LadyLux.

In tune with the demand for “depots” or refillable makeup palettes, she’s also updated her designs to make her customers happy. She noticed a friend of hers was using a rubber band to keep her makeup closed, Minna realized she could fix this problem with her UNII palettes. She said, “This led me to include the clasp on the finished model, which is a really secure way of keeping the palette closed.” The MIT and Harvard grad is always on top of her palettes, recently adding a handy thumb-grip for an easy hold.

Not only are her palettes super convenient, but they’re also a great eco-friendly alternative to hoarding tons of products. “I noticed how much plastic was being wasted after depotting all of my non-refill makeup products, and wanted to create a green product that would encourage the purchase of refills and reduce cosmetic packaging waste. Plus, refills can also be less expensive, leading to cost savings for the long run”, said Minna. Most makeup brands, from Bobby Brown to MAC, can be included in her palettes so UNII can become an all-in-one for anyone.
