LUX tech: Versace, Prada and YSL get geeky

A cell phone for $6,747? You might call it crazy but it’s not just any phone. It’s made by the one-and-only Italian fashionhouse, Versace. Featuring the iconic Medusa emblem stamped on the back, the Versace Touch, hand-made in France and manufactured by LG, makes it known that it is no ordinary phone. The luxury device features a face made of high-tech ceramic or lacquer, an 18-karat gold or stainless steel finish and a leather backing available in a variety of colors from pink and purple to black. If another $2k on the price tag doesn’t scare you, upgrade to the ceramic-gold alligator skin model for the easy price of $8,464.

The Korean tech giant, LG, is no stranger to teaming up with luxury retailers. The famous leather accessory maker, PRADA, is also manufacturing a cell phone by the company. The glassy black phone is just as sleek as the brand’s sunglasses, uses their signature simplicity and modernity that separates them from the rest. Unfortunately the sexy accessory hasn’t hit the U.S. just yet. It’s only available in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia. Hmm, darn.

Yves Saint Laurent similarly wants their customers constantly plugged in, unveiling their multi-country power adapter for $450. Now you can use your ceramic flatiron in Paris and not worry about it melting into the armoire. The plug comes with a cute leather carrying case (available in fuschia, black and violet) so that fellow travelers will mistake your large electrical appliance for translucent powder. As technology slowly invades the trendiest of trendsetters, it’s good to know that geek can still be chic.
