Proposed Congress Bill to Provide Tax-Benefits for Pet Lovers
LUX pet owners may soon rejoice with this proposed HAPPY Act (Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years Act) that is currently on the Congress floor.
The overall purpose for the HAPPY Act is to amend the Internal Revenue Code to provide up to $3,500 in tax benefits to caring pet owners!!
Proposed by Republican Representative Thaddeus McCotter, this is a bill that is currently awaiting further discussion. There seems to be quite a few hurdles to overcome before we see the financial benefits of owning a pet!!
Imagine the impact of such a bill though. It would most definitely influence the number of adoptions of many homeless animals by acting as an incentive to sway people considering a new addition to the family!
According to the 2009/2010 National Pet Owners Survey by APPA, ‘over 62% of U.S. households have at least one pet, which has grown significantly over the years. You could only hope that the 71.4 millions of homes that would be positively affected by this bill might want to know that their opinion could help!
Currently, the bill is at a stalemate and if you would like to make your opinion count, we highly recommend you visit opencongress.org and clearly state your opinion of this pending proposal.
No time like the present to make your voice count LUX Nation. There is an online Wiki and other forums to post your opinion on the matter.
Though, we too would love to hear what your impressions of this possible additional tax-deduction! Do you believe that owning a pet should equate to possible tax benefits? What would this additional write-off mean for you?
