Fall 2012 trends: equestrian

Equestrian themes are by no means new to the runway, but for Fall 2012, Givenchy created a new dark twist that has quickly become one of the biggest trends of the season. The edgy looks coincide with concepts of dark beauty as designer Riccardo Tisci illustrated his idea of equestrian with leather, sleek silhouettes, shadowy colors and knee-high boots with heel-covering sheaths that were so spot-on they were the essence of the collection. The vision was an exciting one that is a must-have in every Fall wardrobe. Get inspired with three major equestrian ensembles and how to wear them!

Streamlined and with a mysterious elegance, Givenchy’s all-black attire evokes daydreams of riding through the city. Create the look by teaming up J Brand’s leather skinny pants with Rachel Zoe’s Sawyer silk blouse complete with a sophisticated tie at the collared neckline. Add on the chain belt from By Malene Birger and Lauren Merkin’s Riley patent clutch for a little glam. Complete the look with Givenchy’s commanding ponyskin pointy low boots.

Tisci brings romance to equestrian with delicate lingerie-inspired camisoles. Combine T by Alexander Wang’s cami with Boy By Band of Outsiders’ pleated jodphur tweed pants. Incorporate a dash of monochrome red with Diane von Furstenberg’s Kenley cashmere scarf detailed appropriately with a chain-link print. Amp up the drama with Agnelle’s long gloves and Givenchy’s knee-high boots. Toss essentials in Juicy Couture’s tough studded clutch.

Polished and ladylike with a dose of attitude sums up the show’s opening look. Pair Diane von Furstenberg’s slick leather skirt with Theory’s Bindra C wool coat with contrasting sleeves. Slip on Club Monaco’s Nicole leather gloves and Thakoon’s high heel boots with stitching for a riding-ready appeal. Rebecca Minkoff’s snakeskin embossed Kiss Kiss crossbody bag rounds out the ensemble with mild textural contradiction.
