Illustrator, Ruben Toledo, Brings ‘Classic’ Novels to Life with New Looks
Avid readers beware, it seems that three of our most beloved classics have a fresh new look to bring them to life to attract a new generation.
Ruben Toledo, known for his capricious and traditional elegant eye, has long been making ‘couture fashions come to life’ though his creative endeavors. Well, he has now just completed a new project for Penguin books, which involved crafting a whole new external cover to these timeless pieces of art!!
My only command from Penguin was to make art that would make youngsters want to read — to introduce these stories to a new public no matter what age. That’s why I think the fact that I had never read them was an asset, [combined with] the fact that they are all period stories, clearly set in another time and ruled by the mode of their time in history, yet are totally relevant to this Twitter world we live in.—per an interview with Toledo, WWD
As you can see from the picture above, the three novels include: Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights,” and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter.” These LUX-classics now have a facelift sure to attract even those occasional readers!!
These books have just hit shelves, so be sure to check them out at your local bookstore and tell what you think.
LUX Nation, do these new covers make you want to pick up these classics and give them a read? Perhaps, they entice you to gift them to a friend??
