LUX Look: Legwear
There is something so exciting about legwear. It’s much more fun than wearing pants and always adds an extra flair to any outfit. For Fall/Winter 2010, get ready because designers are showing a whole lot of it.
This season, everyone is getting creative beyond black tights and thinking thigh-highs, legwarmers, sheer tights and socks. Since last season’s Alexander Wang collection, thigh-highs and knee-highs have been getting more popular and popping up on the blog scene and runways. Cynthia Steffe, Thakoon, L.A.M.B., Vivienne Westwood Red Label and Prada all sported a version in their collections. Cynthia Steffe did thigh-highs in a preppy manner bringing us back to our “Clueless” days. Thakoon and Vivienne Westwood Red Label took the legwear to the next level by layering them over contrasting tights. L.A.M.B. went sheer with her knee-highs and Prada chose chunky knitwear knee-highs. Tights were once dark and opaque but have now gone sheer. Acne, Proenza Schouler and Zac Posen had plenty of leg action with their sheer hosiery styled with micro short dresses. Other designers got funky with their tights such as Prada and Thakoon. Prada’s tights run a thick stripe down the front while Thakoon went for a two-face split black and grey look. White tights have made a comeback and leading the pack are Thakoon, BCBG Maz Azria and Giorgio Armani. Greys and blacks were styled against the white tights for contrast. Nearly each outfit of BCBG Max Azria’s collection was styled with white tights, creating a modern look.Legwarmers may traditionally have been for dancers but on the runway they are nothing but chic. Y-3 and Michael Kors matched chunky, cozy legwarmers with dresses and skirts, slightly covering the shoes. Socks are definitely not just for sneakers anymore. Dolce and Gabbana matched ladylike socks with pumps giving us more attitude and a warmer option.
