LUX Style: Black ankle booties

As the chill sets in and winter approaches, it’s time to hibernate our toes in something warmer – like little black ankle boots. Booties have fully earned their status as a wardrobe staple, but that doesn’t mean a seasonal update isn’t in order. This season, black ankle booties have found new silhouettes, including pointed-toes, stiletto and block heels, wedges, and an above-the-ankle topline.

Sleek and super chic, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Jayne ankle boots feature an architectural sculpted heel. The nearly 5-inch modern heel is coupled with a partially hidden platform and rich, pebbled leather. With a topline that hits just above the ankle, these boots have a fresh vibe. Pair them with super-skinny jeans to achieve a model-off-duty look or with toughen them up with a button-up shirtdress.

Feeling rebellious this winter? Try Alexander Wang’s woven boots for some kick. These brilliant black booties feature side cutouts, a patent leather T-strap and nubuck woven shoelacelike straps, yet the stiletto heels keep the look feminine and sharp. These booties may look fierce, but don’t be intimidated. They can be worn with pants, skirts, maxis, leggings – you name it. Just make sure to wear it with your boldest attitude.

B Brian Atwood has options to please any shoe lover. On the modern side, the suede pointed-toe Kasadela boot is an everyday bootie that can go from work to night in a heartbeat. Just shy of four inches, the heel displays a clean stiletto that complements the notched top line nicely. For a more mainstream number, the Paramour bootie features a solid block heel; snake-embossed, leather-panel counter; and exposed outstep zipper. With a round-toe character, this bootie is easy-to-wear, especially with XXX.

These Dolce Vita Sana wedge booties were made for stomping. The chunky number features a cutout wedge with brushed gold midsole detail. With a metallic touch that leans toward opulence, these wedges doll up nicely with dresses or combined with tuxedo blazers and a healthy dose of jewelry.

Reminiscent of moccasin boots, Elizabeth and James’s Mercy booties feature a similar lace-up style but with a modern twist. With an almond toe-shape, one-inch platform and mild heel, these are the perfect addition to any tailored look. The silhouette can jazz up boot-cut pants or pencil skirts paired with blouses.
