LUX Style: Holiday Gold and Silver

It’s no secret that metallic is a major trend this Fall and holiday season. Balmain, Alexander Wang, Dries Van Noten, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein gave their Fall 2011 collections a healthy dose of silver and gold to glam up everything possible, especially apparel. Sparkling gold suits, lamé pants, shiny dresses and even mirrored outerwear paraded down the runway. But metallic on the catwalk is one thing. You’re probably wondering: How do you work it into your wardrobe? Don’t fret, LadyLUX has you covered with styling tips for the day or night, and glammed up or laidback in jeans. So it’s not a question of whether or not you should sport a metallic look. The question becomes: Are you on Team Gold or Team Silver?

Fun and sexy, a gold outfit such as Pencey’s sequin shift dress will catch everyone’s attention. The dress features silk banding edges to bring out the gold sparkles. This number doesn’t call for many accessories, but try adding a black cuff for some edge. Pair with black strappy sandals for a sleek look or red for a more playful feel.

For a subtle touch of shimmer, Alice and Olivia slim-cut, soft gold pants are perfect. With their pale shade, the stretch lamé pants work well as a neutral base. Maintain an understated feel with a blush, white or gray turtleneck, and add a gold choker to pull the outfit together. To make a bold statement, combine with a gold top such as Elizabeth & James’ antique button-up. The monochrome look is chic and sophisticated, and the varying gold tones complement one another.

Tibi’s racer-back camisole is foolproof to add a burst of gold to casual or dressy looks. This jersey metallic tank with spaghetti straps, when worn with light-washed denim skinny jeans and single-sole sandals, makes for an easy model-off-duty look. Glam up the cami for cocktail hour by tucking it into a leather pencil skirt and finish with classic pointy-toe pumps.

Fitting for a day at work or an evening out, Adam’s long tweed coat can be versatile for all your looks. The foiled gold-finished coat looks chic with head-to-toe black or white ensembles. The saturated color also pops against other holiday hues such as red, green and purple.

You can also incorporate metallic touches into festive holiday outfits through glittering eye shadow, accessories or clutches. Dust gold eye shadow around the eyes and add on several coats of mascara. The color complements both dark and light eyes.

Shashi’s set of three stretch bracelets can liven up dull looks with its contrast of black and gold.

Felix Rey’s serpentine wristlet can carry small essentials and luxe up party dresses.

Alice and Olivia’
s long-sleeve sleek silvery dress has just the right amount of futuristic fun. Balanced by its crewneck, the short dress maintains a low-key coolness. Keep the vibe by pairing with booties and avoiding knee-length boots.

On silver’s sweeter side, Theyskens' Theory waist-pleated dress gets you in the mood to mingle. The scoop neck flatters the collarbone, plus the dress features slated hip pockets perfect for tucking your lipgloss. Stick with white or nude pumps to make your legs look miles long.

Right on trend this season, wide-leg pants are already sophisticated, but Tory Burch’s darkened silver pair looks even more glam. For daytime, simple white boyfriend tees and oversized shades are all you need to look boss. At night, channel a chic vibe by pairing them with a minidress or long tunic for a progressively long layers look. Choose sky-high heels to elongate the outfit.

In a lustrous oyster shade, T by Alexander Wang’s panne velvet camisole can be a great wardrobe staple. The simple silhouette can be paired with maxiskirts, miniskirts or drainpipe pants. Use the deep silver as a base color and combine the top with vibrantly colored pants in purple, red or blue. Mix in a gold cuff to play with metallics.

For outfits that need extra razzle-dazzle, infuse silver tones with a clutch or pair of shoes. Alexander Wang’s Devere mini satchel shines with its mirrored finish. The fur pulls provide playful texture contrast. Perfectly compact, it can be a polished accent to dress up any look.

Alice and Olivia’s glitter mary janes are girly and playful. Create looks around these dancing shoes by pairing with an A-line dress or, to toughen them up, combine with leather pants and a fur vest.
