LUX Style: Resort 2012 apparel

Since the runway shows are just around the corner, fashion news may be focused on Pre-Fall or even Fall. But after being bundled up for a few months, our minds are craving outfits that don’t include a heavy coat. Luckily, resort collections have hit stores and provided a bit of relief from wintery ensembles. Now we only need a few hours of sunshine to sport our favorite resort pieces – or a quick sunny getaway.

Hawaii sounds good right about now. Or at least second best, Suno’s Hawaiian-print button-down. This colorful top features a bold print in green, blue, pink and red. For the perfect cure to even the worst winter blues, enhance the summery vibe with bright shorts – layered over tights if the weather demands it– or eye-catching blue skinny pants.

After months of wearing wool coats or parkas, an oversized twill blazer sounds rather refreshing. Hitting just above the knee, Diane Von Furstenberg’s Raiko jacket displays a gorgeous glacier blue. This blazer pairs nicely with leather fitted pants or clean pencil skirts. Don’t shy away from matching it with more color just because of the vibrant blue. For a resort vibe, style with tops in complementing pink or lime green or even some exciting stripes.

Scarf dresses are a favorite this season and teasing us with near perfection is Derek Lam’s asymmetrical halter. The red-and-blue, mixed-print silk dress features front pleating and a sash-tie in the back. With its black trim accents, the dress can be matched with black platforms or a fun red pair.

Alexander Wang’s idea of resortwear is perhaps more sporty than the rest, but still downtown chic as ever. The honeycomb-knit A-line dress exhibits a two-tone crew-neck that features a light gray knit in the front and clean white panel with neon trim on the back. The textured dress can be easily paired with a cropped jacket or, for a serious statement, a lively windbreaker jacket.

2012’s Pantone color of the year is Tangerine Tango, and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s sleeveless dress celebrates the color like no other. The loose dress displays a scoop neck and matte sequin side paneling. Since the vibrant color gleams so brightly, try a neutral-color wedge or a lightly textured print platform for balance.

Every wardrobe needs a blouse with a pop of color, and Sonia Rykiel’s pleated sleeve blouse is the perfect answer. This blouse boasts a delightful yellow gold that combines well with simple, classy white pants or works in harmony with fuchsia shorts or printed numbers.

Seahorse handkerchief scarf pants might sound like a fashion disaster, but not when it comes to Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti’s. These blue-and-white printed pants offer a flowing, wide-leg silhouette and a six-button closure with sailor front. Keep the look relaxed with a loose-fitting blouse or tee, and kick it up with some silver T-strap wedges.
