Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring 2012: We Are Handsome
We Are Handsome was created with the idea to create simply spellbinding works of art. Launched on the cusp of summer in 2009, Indhra Chagoury and Jeremy Jules Somers created the label for anyone with a love for the beautiful things in life. The swimwear collection’s colorful palettes and finely shaped cuts reminisce the halcyonic, sundrenched days of Chagoury’s Queensland childhood. The duo’s desire to create, design and share perfection has understandably made them a worldwide hit, but We Are Handsome remains true to its roots.
Presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring 2012, We Are Handsome focused on a wild theme of lions, tigers and zebras – Oh my! Graphics of the safari animals’ faces were blazed across classic one-piece suits – and even the runway itself - offering a current vibe.The one-piece style appeared in several silhouettes including strapless with a sweetheart neckline, with short sleeves and with a modern update of a sheer yolk.

Bikinis took classic styles of triangle tops as well as the popular retro shapes. Triangle tops and bandeau halters paired with bottoms featuring side string ties. ‘50s inspired high-waisted bottoms were appropriately combined with underwire bra tops with halter straps. The different styles of bikinis displayed a range of playful prints from wallpaper florals, textured colors, vibrant graphics and an original water splash pattern.

Alongside the swimwear, Chagoury and Somers designed dresses, jumpsuits and even an evening gown. The design duo crafted fitted dresses with the matching wallpaper print; jumpsuits showed panels and sleeves of sheer mesh contrasted with vibrant graphics; and a full-skirted evening gown took a playful route with the water splash pattern.
We Are Handsome’s bold array of materials gave the Spring 2012 collection excitement the fans won’t be able to wait for.
